About the building
Formerly called Magnolia House, Priory Close. The house was joined to a cottage which backed onto it. Evidenced by wide internal walls through which passages and doors have been cut.
It has an interesting stone front and sections of stone window, possibly from the Priory of St Mary’s.
The gardens curled around the back of Magnolia Terrace, crossed the stream and backed onto the Market (see map with 24A). The entrance to the terrace was through the passageway and the door A in the 1920s. Source: Mr Dorrell.
It has a small single storey annexe to its left (no 8 Monk Street). Previously Heritage Monuments, containing headstones, now vacant (September 2016).
